Where do we go from here? Old Fella, like the animals it saves, is homeless. We rely on foster homes to provide shelter for our rescued animals. Old Fella needs a home. Thanks to a generous land donation as well as area business’ support, Old Fella is finally Homeward Bound. We are ready to kick off our Capital Campaign and build a permanent home for Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue. A permanent place for us, but still a temporary home for Burke County’s homeless pets on the road to their forever home.
With the generous donation came the stipulation that Old Fella must have a certificate of occupancy by December 2012 or the land will revert back to the original owner. The Board of Directors and members of Old Fella have developed plans for The Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue Intake Facility and Low Cost Spay –Neuter Clinic. It is our hope that with these facilities, we will continue to reduce the numbers of homeless animals in Burke County and across the CSRA by continuing what we have been improving on for the past four years.
Our plans include a 4,000 sq. ft. building. Its purpose would be a combined intake/education facility joined with a low cost spay-neuter clinic. The larger portion of this building will not only provide an intake quarantine facility, but will be used for education activities, meetings, special events and adoptions. The remaining portion of the building is a low cost spay-neuter clinic serving South Richmond, Burke, Jenkins, Jefferson, Emanuel and Bulloch Counties. The clinic will provide area residents low cost sterilization alternatives not available in their counties.
